Whose mission is to provide a space where artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs can connect and learn from one another through the inspiring power of storytelling.
Grazia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to help people live each day at their fullest potential through the power of quality sleep. This passion was born out of a deeply personal experience following our son’s devastating motorcycle accident.
He had recently purchased a memory foam mattress, but following his accident quickly realized it lacked the proper support and more importantly the breathability, his back desperately needed. It was then that we became aware of the hidden dangers in conventional mattresses—the chemicals, synthetic foams, and materials that could negatively impact both health and sleep quality.
Before this, we had never truly considered the importance of sleep, let alone the concept of “clean” or “green” sleep. However, we realize firsthand the need for a breathable, natural mattress that could prevent issues like bed sores and promote healing. It was a brutal wake-up call—one that transformed into our driving force.
At the time, natural sleep solutions were difficult to come by. Determined to make a change, we leveraged our knowledge and connections to create a solution—not just for our son, but for anyone seeking a healthier way to sleep. And so, our journey began, with a mission to revolutionize sleep through safe, natural, and high-quality materials.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My husband, deeply rooted in the furniture business, furnished spectacular villas across Europe and Saudi Arabia, including the Royal Palace in Jeddah. In 1984, after decorating a few homes on Palm Beach Island, he was inspired to open an Italian furniture store in the U.S.
His constant travel between Italy and the States kept him away from home, which I found difficult—especially for our two young children. Determined to keep our family united, I got our passports, enrolled in an English course, and prepared for a new chapter.
That Christmas, I told him that if he was returning to the U.S., we were coming too. By January 1987, our family relocated. While our children, then 4 and 7, were excited, I was stepping into the unknown. Leaving behind a comfortable life was daunting but being together mattered most.
Looking back 38 years later, I wouldn’t change a thing.
For years, we dedicated ourselves to the furniture business, providing luxury kitchens, baths, and furnishings for high-rises and residences. But everything changed on Memorial Day weekend in 2007 when our son Christian was in a devastating motorcycle accident. That life-altering event set us on a new path—one that led to the creation of Sleep On Green.
With a focus on sleep health, we are committed to providing non-toxic sleep systems tailored to individual needs.
For individuals with allergies or asthma, the breathability of our mattresses prevents mold and mildew growth, eliminating common triggers of respiratory issues.
For those recovering from injuries or managing chronic pain, our mattresses offer customizable firmness on each side, ensuring personalized support at any time.
A standout feature of our mattresses is their customizable firmness, allowing you to adjust the support to your changing needs simply by rearranging the internal layers—no need to purchase a new bed. This flexibility also enables easy replacement of individual components, significantly extending the mattress’s lifespan.
One of these key components is our proprietary coconut coir layer, designed as a superior alternative to traditional metal coils. Developed by my husband, this natural material maintains its shape while providing optimal spinal alignment, ensuring a healthier and more restorative sleep.
While natural mattress companies have become more common over the past decade, our collection stands out as fully biodegradable.
The difference that we make in people’s lives becomes most evident when clients share their relief and appreciation for improved sleep and its positive impact on their overall well-being. This transformation is especially personal for us—our own son went from being bedridden to becoming a Spartan OCR trainer.”
At Sleep On Green, we don’t just offer mattresses—we offer solutions for healthier, restorative sleep.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
We never really thought about what went into the mattresses we slept on.
Like most people, we trusted the marketing around memory foam without questioning the materials or considering how spending a third of our lives surrounded by these chemicals could affect our well-being.
It wasn’t until Christian’s accident that we began to dig deeper. His recovery opened our eyes to the hidden realities of the mattress industry—something most people never pause to consider.”
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Without a doubt, referrals are our greatest source of new clients.
There’s no better validation than seeing our clients so refreshed and rejuvenated that they feel compelled to share their experience.
It’s a powerful testament to how life-changing truly restful sleep can be.
