SOURCE AND PRODUCTION

Derived from Natural Rubber Trees where the sap (latex) is tapped and harvested sustainably for up to 30 years, making Talalay latex a renewable and eco-friendly resource.

Rubber tapping is the process by which latex is collected from a rubber tree. The latex is harvested by making a groove into the bark that spirals around the tree, peeling back the bark where the sap collects into a cup. Rubber tapping is not damaging to the forest, as it does not require the tree to be cut down in order for the latex to be extracted. After its use, Talalay will dissolve when exposed to the elements after a few years, not leaving behind any harmful chemicals.

Talalay Process involves vacuum-expanding the latex, flash-freezing it to stabilize the cell structure, and then vulcanizing (curing) at high temperatures. This yields a consistent, open-cell foam. This process is done a few times.

Why We Got Started

The Sleep On Green journey started on Memorial Day weekend 2007, when our son Christian was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident which caused him to be bedridden for several months.

At the time, Christian had recently purchased a memory foam mattress, but it wasn’t until he was confined to it, that we all realized it was doing much more harm than good. We quickly understood that he needed a mattress that not only provided the proper support necessary for his back, but also a mattress that was breathable and made with natural materials to prevent boils and bed sores.

Before our son's accident we had no idea what healthy sleep or clean sleep meant. Like many of us, we thought a mattress was a mattress, and as long as it seemed ‘comfy’, that’s all that mattered. It wasn’t until then that we had a wakeup call as we started to do some research and learned how memory foam mattresses as well as conventional mattresses can potentially make you sick.

This life changing moment spurred us into action, it was with great urgency that we searched for a “natural” mattress, one that would support Christian during his long road to recovery.

Optimal Support and Pressure Relief

Talalay latex provides optimal support as it has a uniform cell structure that gently cradles the body and head, distributing weight evenly to relieve pressure points while keeping the neck and spine aligned. Its responsive structure adapts to different sleeping positions, making it ideal for both mattresses and pillows.

Retains Its Shape And Support

Talalay latex stands out for its extended lifespan, effectively resisting sagging and wear over time. This remarkable durability ensures you get lasting value from your mattress or pillow, keeping them supportive and comfortable for years to come.

Cimate Control and regulation

The open-cell structure allows for breathability and temperature regulation that enhances airflow, helping regulate body temperature and reduce heat retention. This means cooler, more comfortable sleep throughout the night.

Hypoallergenic And Antimicrobial

Natural latex resists dust mites and fungal growth, supporting a cleaner sleep environment giving it hypoallergenic and antimicrobial properties. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone with allergies or sensitivities.
