Merino wool is a premium natural fiber sourced from Merino sheep, renowned for producing some of the softest and finest wool in the world. Unlike traditional wool, Merino fibers are incredibly thin and delicate, making them exceptionally soft against the skin.
Cashmere is an ultra-luxurious fiber obtained from the undercoat of cashmere goats. Its rare production process and unmatched softness make it one of the most sought-after materials in the world.
Together, this premium blend provides breathable warmth, a smooth texture, and a touch of everyday luxury — delivering unparalleled comfort with every use.
Why We Got Started
At the time, Christian had recently purchased a memory foam mattress, but it wasn’t until he was confined to it, that we all realized it was doing much more harm than good. We quickly understood that he needed a mattress that not only provided the proper support necessary for his back, but also a mattress that was breathable and made with natural materials to prevent boils and bed sores.
Before our son's accident we had no idea what healthy sleep or clean sleep meant. Like many of us, we thought a mattress was a mattress, and as long as it seemed ‘comfy’, that’s all that mattered. It wasn’t until then that we had a wakeup call as we started to do some research and learned how memory foam mattresses as well as conventional mattresses can potentially make you sick.
This life changing moment spurred us into action, it was with great urgency that we searched for a “natural” mattress, one that would support Christian during his long road to recovery.
Why We Use Wool And Cashmere
Moisture Wicking and Breathability
One of the most remarkable qualities of wool is its exceptional moisture-wicking ability. Wool fibers can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture without feeling damp. As you perspire, wool naturally draws moisture away from your skin, allowing it to evaporate efficiently. This process keeps you dry, comfortable, and fresh. Additionally, wool’s breathability helps prevent odor buildup — a common issue with synthetic fabrics.
Naturally Fire Resistant
Wool’s natural chemical structure makes it inherently flame-resistant, earning its place in public spaces like hotels, aircraft, and hospitals. Unlike cotton, which ignites at 255°C, wool requires temperatures of 570-600°C to catch fire. Unlike polyester and nylon, which melt at lower temperatures, wool never melts, ensuring it won’t stick to the skin — offering both safety and comfort.
Sustainable and renewable
Wool is a natural, renewable resource that offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials. Each year, sheep produce a new fleece, making wool endlessly renewable. When wool fibers are eventually disposed of, they naturally decompose in soil within a few years, releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth. By choosing wool, you’re embracing an eco-friendly fiber with a lower environmental impact.
Natural Temperature Regulation
Merino wool’s natural ability to regulate temperature makes it an ideal choice for mattresses. Unlike synthetic materials, Merino wool is an active fiber that adapts to your body’s needs — retaining warmth in colder conditions and releasing heat and moisture when temperatures rise. This breathability ensures a comfortable, dry, and restful sleep environment all year round.
